Letter to City Councillors

by the Working Group on Racial Equity

Dear Councillor:

The Working Group on Racial Equity would like to thank you for your decision in recommending the formation of a Committee Against Racism at City Hall.

We, in the Working Group on Racial Equity, are willing to offer our help with the interview and selection processes for the anti-racism committee.

We would also be interested in assisting in any review of the Council's olicy on the appointment of citizen members to City committees, local boards and commissions, whether it be in the form of submitting comments, participating in hearings, or helping with the design of the policy review process itself and the content of the new policy.

We believe that policies in the new city should result in a greater reflectiveness of the racial diversity of the region. Appointments to agencies, committees, boards and commissions in the region have been exclusive for far too long.

We realize that you have been active supporters of citizen involvement in City Hall processes. We offer our help in that spirit.

We thank you again for your farsightedness and progressive vision for the city of Hamilton.
